YOUTH PERFORMANCE

 

 Youth Performance squad offers swimmers the opportunity to compete at County, Regional or National level competition, training with peers that have similar expectations. Swimmers following physical maturation will train towards specific events and distances.

Seagulls also have a Youth National squad which gives swimmers who are competing at or close to national level competitions an extra session in the pool.

Youth Performance Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of 5-6 Session a week

Youth National Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of 7-8 Sessions a week

 

Squad Entrance Criteria (Youth Performance)

 The typical age of swimmers in this squad are between 13 and 18 years.

 

  • Achieving or working towards Regional Championships Qualifying or consideration times
  • Looking to Maintain attendance of at least 75%
  • Competing at Target Competitions & following race Calendar
  • Committing to AM sessions
  • Complete a Set of 30 x 100’s – 1:30
  • Dropout Test Set – at least down to 1:22 as a minimum
  • Complete a Set of 20 x 50’s Kick – 1:00 as a minimum

 

Squad Entrance Criteria (Youth National)

 The typical age of swimmers in this squad are between 15 and 18 years.

  • Achieving Regional Standard Times and working / achieving National level swimming competitions
  • Looking to Maintain attendance of at least 80%
  • Competing at Target Competitions & following race Calendar
  • Committing to AM sessions
  • Complete a Set of 30 x 100’s – 1:25 - minimum
  • Dropout Test Set – at least down to 1:15 as a minimum
  • Complete a Set of 20 x 50’s Kick – 55 as a minimum

 

Athlete Requirements

  • During Exam Periods Swimmers must maintain a minimum of 50% attendance
  • Expected to arrive on time to complete Pre Pool before the session
  • Report to Coach before and After every Race
  • Expected to be professional and follow full warm up and swim Down protocol at meets
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Athletes are advised to take holidays at appropriate times in the year so not to disrupt training into key meets

Progression

   Youth National - if meeting squad criteria to progress to Youth National ( 15-18yrs)

 

Squat Exit Criteria

  • Outgrowing the programme progression and progressing to a university programme
  • Unable to meet level of performance required or competitive commitment to the programme – If so, alternative squad will be offered

 

Equipment Required

 Pool Training

  • Drinks bottle x2 (min 1 litre).

  • Swimming flippers.

  • Kickboard.

  • Hand paddles.

  • Goggles x2.

  • Pull-buoy.

  • Snorkel.

  • Rubber band to go around ankles

Land Training and Pre Pool

  • Correct sports trainers, shorts, t-shirt and hoodie

  • Resistance Bands

  • Foam Roller

  • Skipping Rope

  • Yoga Matt

  • Club Championships (typically Sept – Dec).

  • County Championships (Feb, March)

  • Regional Championships SC & LC (Oct, Apr, May)

  • National Championships SC & LC (Dec, July, Aug)

  • Open Meets (Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Apr, May,June,July)

Team Inter-Club Gala’s

  • National Arena League (September – December)
