The past 3 weekends have been all action packed for seagulls’ members competing in Newport for the arena league round 2, Millfield for the South west regional short course championships and most recently Littledown for the swim Bournemouth level 2 meet.


5th/ 6th / 7th November – Short Course Regional Championships – Millfield

Seagulls had 3 swimmers competing at this high level of competition aimed at 15 & Ovr swimmers which was staged at Millfield school which includes 2 sessions of heats swims and a finals session in the evening for the top 16 swimmers qualifying.

Isaac Ellis, Emily Mcwilliam and Sonny Chamberlain – Hyde all using this meet as a process towards the swim England national winter championships in December competed in a number events over the 3-day competition.

Isaac Ellis

Isaac competed in 6 events over the weekend collecting 2 x Personal bests and 4 x season best including a final in the men’s 200m Freestyle. Isaac coming away with a solid weekend and a great progression from the start of the season.

Sonny Chamberlain – Hyde

Sonny competing in 7 events over the weekend collected a number of finals over the weekend in events 50 Bk / 100 BK / 100 IM / 200 BK / 200 IM. Sonny came away with 3 x Personal bests, 2 x season bests & 2 club records.

Emily Mcwilliam

Emily competed in 8 races over the 3 days including Friday night distance and manged to improve massively on season best times from the start of the season to gain 7 season best times.


Independent Schools’ Association – National Final

Congratulations to seagulls Halle Robinson who has qualified for the ISA national final at the London Olympic aquatic centre in which she qualified for both 50m Breastroke and 50m Backstroke. She manged to clock 2 massive long course personal best and a 13/u long course club record. Her results were:

50m Breast – 38:46 (Club Record)

50m Back – 36:91

National Arena League Rd 2 – Newport

A team of 23 seagulls racers took to the 2nd round of the national arena league which seagulls drew Newport as the location the swimmers had to travel to. With seagulls being placed into the premier division of the west league (something that has not happed for nearly 10 years) the team would be racing some of the fastest and top swimmers in the region. The second-round draw included 2 previous national finalist and champions.

With a nervy start for the team Seagulls were able to race hard fighting for every point and able to come out the same place they were ranked going into the competition in 5th.

19th / 20th / 21st  November – Swim Bournemouth Level 2 Open meet


 This past weekend Seagulls had 39 swimmers compete at the 3-day competition at Littledown leisure centre hosted by Swim Bournemouth. This was a meet for many of swimmers as their target meet of the first cycle of the season to compete, improve on personal best times and gain early qualification times to County and Regional championships next year.


The swimmers were able to race hard and take away lots of learning points to take back into training in the run in up to the end of the year. Seagulls as a club had a in the excess of over 200 swims in total and they were able to come away with an impressive 52% PB rate.

Also, special mention to 3 Seagulls swimmers Halle Robinson, Finley Lock & George Honor who broke 21 club records between the, and also all of them not only breaking their own age group records but older age group records as well.



Well done to all that has raced over the last 3 weeks, some great performances coming out from the team and lets carry it on through to the final weeks with club champs, West Dorset arena league final round.
