RECORDS FALL AS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE (2021-2022)

Big congratulations to all swimmers that has competed over the last season it has been another great season with new club highs and the first full season back since covid. As we start the new season it great to reflect on last years achievements and set the goals and targets moving forward into this season. Already despite 7 weeks in we are seeing records already tumble and more and more personal best times being broken So, we are starting off as we left off.

 

Last years overview is as follows:

 

National Arena League

The club finished overall in the Premier Division 13th which is a massive achievement as this is the fist time in 10 years that the club has competed in this division and safely held their place for this year’s competition.

 

National Junior Arena League

The 12/u national arena league was back this year as a virtual gala format which meant some great racing alongside other clubs. The team swam amazing and was ranked an overall 35th in the UK for this competition.

 

Swim England Short Course nationals

Seagulls had a record 4 swimmers qualify for the Swim England short course national championships which were held in Sheffield over 3 days. Some great swims from the team to finish the year with 5 club records broken at this event.

 

Dorset County Championships 2022

The club strongest ever showing at the county championships with total of 44 swimmers qualifying and entering which is the focus for the club to achieve as many qualifiers as possible.

Results included:

268 swims

108 finals 

72 step ups 

51 x gold medals 

33 x silver medals 

29 x bronze medals 

12 x Senior titles

4 x Junior titles 

18 club records 

 

Dorset Novice League

 

The team that competed over the 3 rounds of the Dorset novice league were able to make the top 6 final and came an impressive overall 3rd in the competition a club highest position in this league and a great pathway for swimmers to progress into competitive swimming.

 

Seagulls Open Meet

 

Again, another little bit of history for the club hosting the first ever Seagulls Swimming club open meet. A well-attended and run meet with lot of fun racing and easter eggs. We hope that next year’s meet will be bring the same fun and energy to poolside as before.

 

British Swimming Championships (Commonwealth qualifiers)

 

Seagulls had another record of swimmers qualify for this meet with 3 swimmers achieving qualification to the meet which raced against the very best in the country to compete and the major meets in the summer such as commonwealth games and world championships.

 

Scottish National Age Group Championships (SNAGS)

 

Not a target meets for the club but the club always support swimmers who swim for other nationalities and attending meets further afar. Edward Bell who swims under Scotland competed at the Scottish national age championships 2022. Overall performances included:

8 x Finals 

6 x Step ups 

1 x Gold Medal 

1 x Silver Medal 

 

South West Regional Championships 2022

 

South West regional championships are the second big target meet for the club after county championships with the aim to qualify as many swimmers as possible against the very best of the south west of England. With south west being one of the strongest regions in the county there is always some fast racing. Overall results included:

10 Step ups

1 Gold

3 Silvers

4 Bronzes

South West Open Water Regional Championships 2022

 

A wet and rainy competition did not dampen the moods of the group of swimmers that competed at the open water regional championships. Some great swims which gained qualification for 2 swimmers into the national championships in Sheffield.

 

The team also took 3 golds and a bronze on the day.

 

Dorset Development Meet 2022

 

Another great year for seagulls and the team that competed at this meet. A great competition to progress swimmers and target at the end of the meet. Major trophies won on the weekend were:

MOST IMPROVED FEMALE FORM - Neve Truscott

Scottish Summer Nationals 2022

 

Edward Bell competing at his second Scottish national meet of the season and carried on his progression with more impressive swims:

Seagulls continued the progression of national qualifiers in both meets and a major achievement for any swimmer to be qualifying and racing at. The biggest and end of season target meet of the season.
