Swim Wales Open Water Meet

A crack team of Nova swimmers braved the chilly waters of Llandegfedd Lake in South Wales in June for the Swim Wales Open Water meet.
The event was originally designed as British Swimming’s selection event for European Juniors Open Water, but due to the European swimming association LEN setting the date for European Juniors before the selection event took place it was changed to a selection event for LEN cup events.
Seventeen-year-old Livia Kingsland smashed her age group in the 7.5km event and came third overall and has now been selected to take part in the LEN Cup held in Barcelona in September. Liv, from Nottingham A squad, is also getting some more valuable open water experience in a 10km LEN Cup event in Belgrade this weekend, which is also a qualifying event for Europeans for senior swimmers.
Jessica Brandom 15, and Megan Speirs, 17, also from Nottingham A both had storming swims with Jess coming second in her age group in the 5km event and Megan fourth in hers in the 7.5km event.
Nottingham B1 swimmers Harriet Dickerson and Pippa Hickman, both 14, also took part in the 5km event, with Harriet coming in 18th in the 14-15 age group.
