Nottingham A squad duo Iona Colbert and Livia Kingsland became the latest Nova swimmers to represent Team GB with impressive performances at the recent European Junior Championships in Romania.

The 17-year-olds, who are coached by Joe Stanford, travelled with the GB squad to Bucharest with Iona taking part in the 100m and 200m backstroke and the heats of the medley relay and Liv tackling the 800m and 1500m free.

Iona, who came 18th in the 200 back and made the semi-finals of the 100 event, said iI was a “fantastic experience”.

“To be part of Team GB and compete at international level for the first time was brilliant,” she added.

Livia came 18th in the 1500m free and swam an incredible five-second personal best to place 17th in the 800m.

She said: “Even though I didn’t race as well as I had hoped in my main event, I ended the week on really positive note and it was a great experience. It was my first international competition and there are so many things I can take away and learn.”

Nova director of swimming Nathan Hilton said Iona and Livia both impressed on their international debuts.

“Iona and Livia looked at home alongside the elite swimmers in Europe,” he said. “Having Nova swimmers represent their country – both at junior and full international level – reflects well on the club and is a great indication of the strength in depth that we have.”
