Our private lessons Learn to Swim programme are for children from aged 3.5 years and follow Swim England guidelines to ensure your child has the best chance in thriving in their swimming. The teacher will assess the swimmer on the first session to ensure that the child works at the right stage from when they first start with us at the Rushmoor Royals Learn to Swim School. Each private lesson will meet the needs of the child and aims for them to progress each week throughout the term.

Ducklings: The Duckling stages help children from 3 and a half years old to explore and enjoy the fun of learning to swim. With the help of their teachers, your child will develop confidence both in and out of the water, developing early water confidence prior to joining the NTPS stages.

Stage 1: Developing basic safety awareness, the ‘class’ scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids e.g. floats

Stage 2: Developing safe entries into water including jumping in, basic floating, travel and rotation unaided to regain upright positions.

Stage 3: Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.

Stage 4: Developing the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming 20 metres to a given standard as directed by the ASA.

Stage 5: Developing sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation, also performing all strokes to a given standard as directed by the ASA over 25m and 50m

Stage 6: Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing; developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.
