Matt Naunton -Swim England Coach 










Matt has been involved in swimming for many years as a competitor and now a coach. As a swimmer Matt competed at numerous British Championships and has since taken his passion for the sport into his coaching.

Since leaving the sport as a competitor Matt has become a Swim England Coach and worked in several different environments within the sport from teaching the fundamentals of swimming to young swimmers through to coaching the development of performance athletes at National level.  Matt is fortunate enough to have been around International coaches from various sporting backgrounds giving him a keen eye for what it takes to deliver a high standard of coaching.


Further to this Matt is close to completing his MSc in Strength and Conditioning. He takes a keen interest in applying this to his coaching when considering land work, injury prevention and performance preparation.


Matt is looking to continue to develop his development and take Shiverers Swimming Club forward as a leading Swimming club both regionally and nationally.

Matts experience includes:


  • MSc Strength and Conditioning
  • BSc Sports Science
  • ASA UKCC Level 1 Teaching Aquatics.
  • Swim England Assistant Coach.
  • Swim England Coach.
  • UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children (Oct 17).
  • National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches.
  • Have been involved in competitive swimming as an athlete, reaching British Championships on numerous occasions.
  • Have coached since stopping as a competitor. Starting as a volunteer and quickly moving to a paid role leading the performance squad.
  • Experience in developing the Fundamentals of swimming to young swimmers as well as the development of National standard swimmers
  • Experience of being around international coaches from different disciplines
  • Have experience in coaching strength and conditioning to a variety of different young athletes in various sports. Take a keen interest in the application of strength and conditioning to swimming and its role in improved performance and injury prevention.




Lee has been involved in swimming from an early age, he swam and competed for Shiverers up to Regional standard. This swimming career gave him the inspiration to teach others to swim.

He has attained level 2 in both teaching and coaching Swimming, he also has achieved level 2 in coaching Open Water Swimming. 

Lee has a talent of getting the best out of swimmers, this persistency yields huge results with regards to the technical improvement in swimmers and results. We welcome Lee to our Shiverers family.

Level 2 Coach - Hung Quach

​Hung started to teach and coach swimming when his children started to swim. He then took his level 2 coaching in 2010 and volunteered with Shiverers from 2011.  He runs the land training session on a Tuesday night and sorts out all the results data from each gala.





​Level 1 Coach Andrea Boyle


Andrea is an ex competitive swimmer and parent to 2 swimming children, she is a Level 1 swim teacher. Andrea assists poolside and teaches on Friday evenings and sometimes on a Sunday lunchtime. She is also a qualified Lifeguard and qualified J2 judge, regularly volunteering her time officiating at Galas and Lifeguarding at our sessions at Lancing college. Andrea is a much valued member of the Shiverers family, and winning a ‘TRUE LEGEND’  volunteering award at our recent awards presentation.

Level 1 Coach  Carly Carden

Carly has level 1 and 2 swimming teacher certificate and has taught swimming for many years. She is a local primary school teacher and enjoys taking part in triathlons and playing for Brighton hockey club. Carly has three children aged 5, 7 and 9 who enjoy swimming at various stages at Shiverers from improvers to squad level. She swam with Shiverers as a child and wants to cultivate the same lifelong love of swimming in others.

Volunteer Level 1 coach Ese Stacey

Ese is mum to 3 kids who swim for Shiverers. Having sat on poolside for more than a decade, she thought it was time to lend a hand and become a volunteer coach. When not home-educating her daughter Hannah, she works as a Sports Doctor.​









Volunteer Coach HAZEL

Hazel has been helping out at Shiverers for many years, she helps run our sessions at King Alfred on a sunday and Tuesdays, she is a valued member of our Shiverers family.

The club is run by a committee and members are guided and supported by a great team of coaches(profiles below).

There is also a large pool of volunteers, who help with a variety of roles from coaching to running the club shop, organizing social events, and officiating at galas.
