COACHES AND TEACHERS
HEAD COACH
Matt Naunton -Swim England Coach
Matt has been involved in swimming for many years as a competitor and now a coach. As a swimmer Matt competed at numerous British Championships and has since taken his passion for the sport into his coaching.
Since leaving the sport as a competitor Matt has become a Swim England Coach and worked in several different environments within the sport from teaching the fundamentals of swimming to young swimmers through to coaching the development of performance athletes at National level. Matt is fortunate enough to have been around International coaches from various sporting backgrounds giving him a keen eye for what it takes to deliver a high standard of coaching.
Further to this Matt is close to completing his MSc in Strength and Conditioning. He takes a keen interest in applying this to his coaching when considering land work, injury prevention and performance preparation.
Matt is looking to continue to develop his development and take Shiverers Swimming Club forward as a leading Swimming club both regionally and nationally.
Matts experience includes:
- MSc Strength and Conditioning
- BSc Sports Science
- ASA UKCC Level 1 Teaching Aquatics.
- Swim England Assistant Coach.
- Swim England Coach.
- UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children (Oct 17).
- National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches.
- Have been involved in competitive swimming as an athlete, reaching British Championships on numerous occasions.
- Have coached since stopping as a competitor. Starting as a volunteer and quickly moving to a paid role leading the performance squad.
- Experience in developing the Fundamentals of swimming to young swimmers as well as the development of National standard swimmers
- Experience of being around international coaches from different disciplines
- Have experience in coaching strength and conditioning to a variety of different young athletes in various sports. Take a keen interest in the application of strength and conditioning to swimming and its role in improved performance and injury prevention.
ASSISTANT COACH
Lee Hammond - Level 2 Coach
Lee has been involved in swimming from an early age, he swam and competed for Shiverers up to Regional standard. This swimming career gave him the inspiration to teach others to swim.
He has attained level 2 in both teaching and coaching Swimming, he also has achieved level 2 in coaching Open Water Swimming.
Lee has a talent of getting the best out of swimmers, this persistency yields huge results with regards to the technical improvement in swimmers and results. We welcome Lee to our Shiverers family.
Learn to Swim Teacher – Lisa Cheal
Volunteer Level 1 coach Ese Stacey
Ese is mum to 3 kids who swim for Shiverers. Having sat on poolside for more than a decade, she thought it was time to lend a hand and become a volunteer coach. When not home-educating her daughter Hannah, she works as a Sports Doctor.
The club is run by a committee and members are guided and supported by a great team of coaches (profiles above).
There is also a large pool of volunteers, who help with a variety of roles from coaching to running the club shop, organizing social events, and officiating at galas.
