All Squads are required to bring thier own equipment to all swimming Sessions, this includes Water Bottles, Training FIns, Pull Buoy, Kick Board and Snorkel.  For Squads Skill and above swimmers willl also be expected to have paddles.  Additional pre and post pool specific equipment are also required and will be brought to your attention by your coach.

Transition

Swimmers will learn how to work out turn-around times using the pace clock and lane etiquette, together with all turns including Individual Medley. Stroke technique will be further emphasised and drills will be introduced and proogressed with increasing distances along with further progressions aiding a better understanding of technique.

Stroke technique is still of primary importance with ability to hold technique as distances increase.  

Swimmers will be expected to –

  • Achieve Competitive Start Award.
  • Take part in any team events, open meets qualified for and time trials.
  • Swimmers should attend the session consistently.
  • Take part in any team events, open meets qualified for and time trials.

Skill Development

This squad will further concentrate on refining technique and optimising progress of the swimmer. More emphasis will be put on the importance of the turns, starts and finishes. Training distances will begin to increase with more focus on improving aerobic fitness through a variety of skill based sessions.  Swimmer will be expected to be able to hold techniques consistently and have a clear understanding of what they are working on.

Swimmers will be expected to –

  • Compete in League Competitions, Open Meets that they qualify for and time trials.
  • Work towards County Qualifying times.
  • Maintain  high levels of skill throughout each session
  • Swimmers will be expected to attend all 4 sessions weekly.

Age Group Development

Swimmers in this squad will aspire to perform at a high standard, show a good attitude and have an excellent attendance rate. Their training programme will be progressive as swimmers develop further their aerobic capacities whilst focusing closely on the competitive skills required to compete successfully. Skill and technique is still a major focus as training progresses and becomes more intense.

Swimmers will be expected to –

  • Continue to learn how to train, use the pace clock effectively and compete in all strokes and all distances.
  • Compete in League Competitions, and Open Meets suitable for them selected by the coaching team.
  • Swimmers in this squad should look to achieve county times or be working towards them for the following season.
  • Attend a minimum of 5 out 6 pool sessions per week including one morning.
  • Attend all land training.

Competitive

This squad is for those swimmers further on in their physical development  that are outside the time standards for performance but still wish to train under a planned periodized programme and compete regularly to a good standard. Training will place a higher focus on the skills needed to compete effectively whilst varying the training between training zones for suitable adaptations to be achieved.

Swimmers will be expected to-

  • Take an independent approach to training using pace clocks effectively and take ownership of the attention to detail within their session.
  • Compete in any league competitions selected for and enter open meets qualified for selected by the coaching team.
  •  Aim to achieve county times.
  • Attend a minimum of 4 out of 5 pool sessions per week including one morning.
  • Attend all land training

Age Group Performance Squad

Swimmers will be expected to perform to exceptional standards at every session with excellent attendance. This squad will also be learning to take responsibility for their own training and learning how to manage their training time effectively. Training will become far more competitive focused as swimmers begin to gain a greater understanding of pacing and advanced training sessions specific to their physical development. Aerobic conditioning is still the main focus within training as skills continue to develop with other training zones being utilised as appropriate within the plan.

Swimmers will be expected to –

  • Compete in appropriate League Competitions when selected, and Open Meets selected by the coaching team.
  • Achieve a minimum standard of County Times.
  • Be within 3% of Regional Times.
  • Attend all available land training.
  • Attend a minimum of 5 out of 6 pool sessions a week including 1 morning.

Performance

This will be the most challenging squad in terms of performance and achievement. This squad is for those swimmers who have reached physical maturity. Swimmers will need be completely focused on their swimming progress and expected to behave in a way that sets a standard to the rest of the club. Swimmers will be responsible for their time management including pre and post pool routines. Training will be highly specific to the physical development of those in the squad as training plans utilise a wider range of more suitable training zones.

Swimmers will be expected to –

  • Compete in appropriate League Competitions when selected, and Open Meets selected by the coaching team.
  • Be within 3% of Regional Qualifying Times, and those swimmers within 5% may be considered for the performance squad at the coaches discretion providing other critria are adhered to.
  • Achieving National Times should be a target for the squad.
  • Attend a minimum of 7 out of 9 pool sessions a week.
  • Attend all available land training.

Club Squad

Swimmers in this squad will be those that wish to continue with structured swimming sessions but without the desire to compete regularly. Focuses in this group will be aerobic conditioning whilst maintaining a focus on skill. Swimmers in this squad have the opportunity to filter into the competitive pathway of the club if fulfilling the criteria.

Swimmers will be expected to-

  • Be punctual to all sessions attended.
  • Be focused on learning new skills and adhering to the session plan as delivered by the coach.
  • Allow everyone around them to complete the session effectively and efficiently without causing disruption.

 

Movement between squads will be at the coach’s discretion. Being able to fulfil the criteria in a different squad will not guarantee movement. Movements will be made when the coaching team are confident that swimmers can complete the workloads in the next squad without issue.

 


Masters Squad

This squad is for those senior swimmers that are no longer suitable to be in the rest of the programme due to age. The sessions will still be structured and provide a training opportunity for those that wish to continue training and competing competitively at Masters Events. Sessions in this squad will be planned and delivered by a member of the coaching team.

 

 


Swimmers at University

Swimmers at University who still wish to train and compete will be placed in either the Competitive or Performance Squad at the Coaches Discretion.
