Medals and PB Galore on weekend 1 of 14/U South East Regional Championships

Woking swimmers travel to Crawley for the first of two weekends of competition for the 14yr and under age group for the South East Regional Championships.

Day 1

Today was the turn of our 14/under  swimmers to perform at Crawley K2 in the South East regional championships.

The long day started with Zoe Ryan swimming in the 200IM and her strong performance saw her into the finals and finishing 7th overall, a great result in her first regional final.

Hendrik van der Leest swam a PB of 29.88 in the 50m backstroke heat putting him in the final where he again PB’d with a fantastic time of 29.60 earning him a bronze medal. Hendrik also swam a strong 100m freestyle finishing 9th just outside the final slots.

Zoe Ryan and Kiera Heney put in creditable performances in the 100m Backstroke event.

In the girls 50m Freestyle event, Zoe Ryan and Sophie King both swam very well with Sophie taking a well earned PB of 31.06sec in her first Regional Championship.  Danel Jansen hit her PB in the heat to reach the finals and finished 7th in the region. Kiera Heney smashed her PB with a time of 28.91 in her heat, going into the final in 3rd place and raising the bar even further in the final with a stunning swim to take the silver medal with another PB of 28.54.

Well done to all of our super swimmers today, particular congratulations to our medal winners Hendrik van der Leest and Kiera Heney....bring on Day 2!

Day 2

Day 2 of the U14 regionals started bright and early, with a very busy car park!

Zoe Ryan and Sophie King kicked off the session with 2 great swims in the 50m breaststroke, both girls swam sub 39 second PBs. Sophie booked a place in the finals and finished 7th overall with another stunning PB of 38.41, a massive achievement in her first regionals.

Next up, Ben Howell and Hendrik Van Der Leest competed in the boys 50m butterfly event. Ben swam a fantastic PB  of over a second in a time of 32.17 in his first ever regionals, well done Ben!
Hendrik booked his place in the finals hitting his PB in the heat and finishing 5th overall with a fantastic PB finals swim.

The girls 200m backstroke saw strong swims from Zoe Ryan and Kiera Heney, with Kiera registering a fantastic 3 second PB time.

A blistering 200m freestyle race followed for Daniel Baldwin, registering a 5 second PB with a time of 2.24.17, and Hendrik booking his third final place of the weekend with a PB swim of 2.06.41 and smashing that time again in the final finishing 5th overall with a new PB of 2.05.53.

In a tough fought 100m breaststroke race, Joshua Thompson swam a new long course PB of 1.17.58 finishing just outside the final slots.

A massive well done to all of the swimmers today for some fantastic swimming and a hat full of PBs .
