Congratulations and good luck to Matthew Ferguson, Kiera Heney and Sophie King who have all been selected to represent the South East Region at the ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) National Inter-County Championships to be held at K2, Crawley this weekend  23/24 March. All three swimmers will be competing in both individual and relay events. Woking’s Pool in the Park was the venue for the annual Hants and South Coast Invitational Swimming Meet, where twelve young Woking swimmers all aged 9-11 years, compete against 5 other local clubs. The swimmers are selected to enter a number of mainly 50m events where they earn points for themselves and their club. The teams of Woking, Wey Valley, Alton, Bissett and Haslemere were all vying for the Top Team Title. Congratulations to Club Captain, Matthew Ferguson, who has claimed the South East England 16yr 100m Freestyle record, setting a new Long Course record of 52.16 sec at the Summer Nationals in 2018, breaking the previous records which stood for over 13 years.# Matthew now  joins fellow Woking swimmers, Anna Maine, Hannah Burvil and Hazel Ferguson , who have all set South East records in years past. Congratulations to Ellie Trojanovich, Tegan Gale and Ryan Grealou, who, following their performances at the Surrey County Championships, have been selected to participate in the 11 year old Surrey County Development Camps taking place over 3 individual day camps in April, July and October. The County Development Programme is the first phase of the Swim England talent pathway. We are delighted for these swimmers and hope they have fun on the camps. Surrey County Championships - Final Weekend Report What a fantastic final weekend for the over 80 Woking swimmers who were back at the London Aquatic Centre, home of the 2012 Olympics, for the final weekend of the Surrey County Championships. This weekend saw the best swimmers in Surrey compete in all four of the 50m sprint events, along with the ever-exciting team relay events. Woking swimmers were back in the water over the weekend for the second weekend of Surrey County Championships, a time to shine in the impressive London Aquatic Centre, home to the 2012 Olympic Games. Gold for Zoe and a Club Record in the 200m breaststroke! As well as the raft of swimmers taking part in last weekend's Surrey Age Group Championship, last Saturday also saw Ada and Isla Hanif taking part in the Surrey County ASA Diving Skills competition at Guildford Spectrum. During the competition, which was for 8 to 16 year olds, all divers took part in a series of 6 dives with their accumulated total scores determining the final positions. Congratulations to Hendrik van der Leest,  who has become a Double Dutch record holder as he won his 200m backstroke event in spectaular style at the Dutch SC Nationals in Eindhoven. Hendrik, now the Dutch record holder in both 200m LC and SC events, stormed home in gold medal, record breaking time of 2:05.97. 3 gold medals in 50m, 100, and 200m backstroke events at these nationals along with other medals, are all reported in the news item on 'News from English and Dutch Nationals' .
