National Arena League Round Two Report - Saturday November 13th

Woking SC Webmaster

Round 2 of the National Arena League was held at the Guildford Spectrum for Woking SC, so not a long journey for us. The overall effort from the swimmers was really high and the show of team support outclassed everyone, led by Club Captain Erin Pritchard who didn't have a swim on the night but came down to support the team out.

Woking Swimming Club placed 3rd in the end after being 4th all night against a very strong and competitive group. This was a great achievement as we lost some swimmers late with injury and COVID, but this opened up opportunities for others. In fact we had 5 first timers with Joshua Hutchinson, Eva Selden, Scarlett Redding, Charlie Wade and Alex Platt. All stepped in and did their part for the team, with loads of PB’s and swims providing them with great experience for the future.

On top of this, Club Captain Hendrik van der Leest had an eye infection that almost prevented him from being able to wear his goggles. He did what can only be considered a Captains effort, swimming under two Club Records in the 50m Back 26.25 (relay split) and 100m Freestyle 51.38 for the under 18yrs category. Rubens King also went under his own Club Record in the 200m IM, posting 2.05.20.

Other outstanding swims came from Sophie King, Tegan Gale, Abbie Elford and Nathaniel Reeve. There were many great efforts and the team did not let up all the way through the night which resulted in the strong finish. We have a final round to go and this will also be an away gala.

Keep going strong.
