Last weekend it was great to have some of our swimmers compete in their first event of 2021.

Swim England East Region, the counties of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Norfolk ran a Festival of Swimming event at the London Olympic Pool to get the best of the Regions talent back swimming at a competitive level so soon after Team GB's swimming success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

St Ives Swimming Club participated with, Luke Tunstall, Chloe Butler, Cathryn Thomson, Josh Marshall, Will Coleman, James Quinn. Oliver Dickson and Hannah Pye (who also swims with First Strokes, Godmanchester).

They all swam superbly at the competition with Chloe Butler and Luke Tunstall taking 6th place spots in the region in Breastroke and Butterfly events (50/100 metres) respectively with excellent lifetime best times.  Will Coleman, Josh Marshall, Cathryn Thomson, Oliver Dickson and Hannah Pye all completing lifetime best swims in a plethora of strokes including 100 and 50 metres Breastroke, 100 Butterfly, 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle.

James Quinn in his specialist breastroke events took with ease the 50 and 100 metre titles and Gold medals in respective times of 29.30 and 1.06.53 well ahead of his rivals.

A great weekend of swimming was had by all, showing the talent at the club competing at the highest level.

East Region ran a similar event Future Champions Meet at the end of July, for younger swimmers at Basildon.  Lois Cannon competed and achieved a personal best in the 50m Freestyle.

From September at full capacity St Ives will be training a multitude of swimmers for forthcoming events and competitions in the very near future.

Today is the last of our Summer Swim sessions, have a good break and see you all from Wednesday 1st September.
