Swim England East Region Championships 2nd Weekend at Luton 50m pool on 07 & 08 May
Great results where Tessa Quayle swimming for the first time in a 50m pool made the finals in both the 50 and 100 metres breastroke events. She qualified 5th fastest for the 50m final and swam superbly to finish 4th, and during the day gained a new lifetime best time of 35.90.
On the Sunday she then qualified 7th fastest for the 100m Breastroke final and she finished 6th in a superb lifetime best time of 1.22.20, 1.5 seconds faster than her heat qualifying time, great swims both against athletes from all over the Region.
Lois Cannon in her first Regional competition swam a superb 50 Freestyle in 33 seconds to finish 4th in her heat in a very dramatic and close race where she had been seeded 8th to begin with, giving the 12 year old excellent experience for her future swimming.
Chloe Butler who swam the 200m Breastroke the previous weekend has been awaiting the results from other Regional competitions around the country this weekend to see if she was in the top 24 to be selected at the GB Summer Championships at Sheffield in July, the top ranked 24 in the UK receive invites to compete, the next 20 receive invites to compete in the Home Nations Championships of England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales. So after a tense wait the confirmation of selection was released by British Swimming on Tuesday 10 May and it was confirmed that Chloe was in the top 24 and will swim at the GB Summer Championships.
A great weekend of high level swimming by all the St Ives athletes.
