Surrey Summer Age Group Finals 2021

South Croydon Swimming Club SCSC

Over the weekend of the 10 & 11 July 2021 the Surrey’s Age Group Summer Meet Finals took place. Swimmers from South Croydon SC, along with parents who volunteered to be covid marshals for the club, travelled to Surrey Sports Park for this fantastic event. Only swimmers who were ranked in the top 8 in the County were invited to compete. The event is incredibly competitive so to even be invited is a huge achievement. SCSC had five swimmers attend: -

Alex Khachaturyan (11) competed in both the 50m & 100m Backstroke. He swam exceptionally well as a first timer to the Surrey’s, setting a PB and breaking 40 seconds for the first time for the 50m Backstroke to finish 4th in a time of 39.17. In the 100m Backstroke Alex was just off his PB and finished 6th.

Amelia Smith (11) competed well against a very strong group of swimmers in 4 events. Amelia started well in the 50m Freestyle finishing in 7th place, just off her PB. In her next event the 50m Backstroke she swam an impressive PB by over a second of 38.32. On the Sunday, Amelia competed in the 100m Freestyle finishing in 8th place and swiftly moved on to the 100m Backstroke finishing 6th in a big PB by over 2 seconds of 1:24.24.

George Cootes (11) competed in the 100m Freestyle – the blue ribbon event and produced a solid swim to finish 8th. This was a great start to his gala experience.

Lucas Brown (11) competed in the 50 Butterfly and produced a swim just shy of his PB to finish 7th. As a newcomer to competitive meets this was a great achievement.

William Rispin (11) had a very successful 2-day meet. Although qualifying in 7 events he decided to focus on the following 5 events. In the 50m Freestyle, Will started his medal winning streak by finishing 2nd in a PB time of 31.51. Next up Will swam in the 100m Freestyle and took nearly 3 seconds off his PB to finish 2nd in 1:09.41. In 100m Backstroke, again another big PB was achieved and another 2nd place finish with a time of 1:22.05. Next up was the 100m IM in which an incredible 7 seconds was shaved off his entry time to finish in 2nd place with a 1:20.54. Will’s last event was the 200m Freestyle in which another PB was achieved, 2:33.89 and another 2nd place.

Accompanying the swimmers at the meet was our coach Aaron Vencatachellum who stated, ‘These five young swimmers performed exceptionally well, leaving with a very positive impression of their time at the Surrey’s. Many thanks to all the parents and swimmers as this was my first County experience as a coach.’

SCSC would like to congratulate all the swimmers again on their achievements, as the ‘Surrey County’ is one of the largest swim counties in the Country and certainly the most competitive.
