COUNTY DEVELOPMENT SQUAD CRITERIA

Minimum Age: 7 Maximum Age: 12
MINIMUM ENTRY CRITERIA
- Attend 3 training sessions regularly, school swimming can be taken into consideration
- Swim 400m freestyle
- Swim 200m breaststroke
- Swim 200m backstroke
- Swim 1 x 100 IM, all strokes legal, except fly which should be legal for 15m
- 100m front crawl in under 2 minutes
- Correct stroke technique for breaststroke, front crawl and backstroke
- Able to complete a racing dive competently from side of pool, showing good stance, take off, flight and streamlined underwater phase.
- Be able to somersault at the wall for tumble turns of training needed
- Swimmers to compete at targeted meets specified by coach and all Arena league galas where selected
OBJECTIVES
- Take responsibility for training equipment required at each training session (pull buoy, fins, goggles etc).
- Develop and improve stroke technique on all four strokes,
- Develop progressive stroke drills for all the four strokes.
- Develop starts, turns and finishes on all four strokes
- Continue to use lane discipline and etiquette (e.g. when overtaking, swim round, not over!).
- Understand the basic swimming coaching language i.e. what is a 50, 100, kick, fly, free, back, catch up etc.
- Develop relay takeovers and competitive IM turns
Disabled swimmers eligible for IPC Classification will be assessed in line with LTAD and coach discretion - where appropriate guidance from the London Regional Disability Coach will be sought.
All squad selections and criteria are at the discretion of the coaching team and are made in line with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). Swimmers who are dissatisfied with their squad selection will need to make an appointment with the Head Coach and Welfare Officer/Secretary to discuss the reasoning. Swimmers below the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
