Minimum Age: 7 Maximum Age: 11


  • Attend 2 training session regularly
  • Swim 100m on front
  • Swim 100m on back
  • Correct stroke technique for front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke

Swimmers will be able to have the basics of good stroke technique on three strokes (apart from Butterfly) and
complete the following:

  • 400m Front crawl
  • 200m Backstroke
  • 200m Breaststroke
  • Complete a dive from the side of the pool – start to learn racing dives
  • Stroke work and drills building up stamina on all four strokes
  • Start to understand basic coaching language, 50,100, kick, pull etc
  • Introduce lane discipline and etiquette (e.g. when overtaking, swim around, not over!)
  • Learn front crawl turns and working on backstroke turns
  • Learn basic streamlining


Disabled swimmers eligible for IPC Classification will be assessed in line with LTAD and coach discretion - where appropriate guidance from the London Regional Disability Coach will be sought.

All squad selections and criteria are at the discretion of the coaching team and are made in line with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). Swimmers who are dissatisfied with their squad selection will need to make an appointment with the Head Coach and Welfare Officer/Secretary to discuss the reasoning. Swimmers below the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
