Volunteering at Stevenage Swimming Club

This information is intended to help parents and swimmers to understand how Stevenage Swimming Club is run and to encourage you to offer your help. The committee is expecting at least one member from each family to volunteer sometime over the coming year. Support / guidance will be given.

Training, planning of training sessions, team selection etc is the responsibility of our head coach and their team.

The rest of Stevenage Swimming Club is run by a team of volunteers. This team works throughout the year to ensure the club is financially secure, run to ASA standards (Swim Mark), and that our swimmers can take part in both team and individual events.

Officials

As a club we need to provide officials for team galas, open meets and in-house galas. There are varying levels of officials:

All the training is free of charge and there is an excellent support network for officials within Hertfordshire. There are also lots of benefits from being on poolside – no entry fee to pay, time flies by (especially for all day galas), food and drink provided  and it is a lot cooler than sitting in the gallery!
If you are interested look out for course details on the notice board or speak to the workforce co-ordinator.

HOSTING A TEAM GALA

Each year we take part in 3 team galas. These consist of a series of 3 galas usually held four weeks apart. Arena league is Oct - Dec; Herts Major Jan - March and Peanuts April/June. At least twice a year we have to ‘host’ a round for one of these competitions.
As a hosting team you are responsible for the running of the gala in conjunction with the referee. The gala secretary co-ordinates the event. Volunteers are required to take entry fees, serve drinks, marshal, announce the races etc.
When we are hosting a gala a notice will go up on the board & Online. So, if your child is swimming please offer your help.
