Squads
Juniors
Juniors is the first squad you will join when coming from Swimming lessons Stages 7 and upwards at the ages 7-10 you will learn the basics of competitive swimming and your focus is on technique and gaining the skills of tumble turns, appropriate breathing, starts,finishes and above all else the correct swimming stroke.
You will be encouraged to attend low level competitions to start your competitive journey
You may also be asked to attend Team Completions such as the Cornwall Diddy league and will be expected to represent the club
B Squad
Ages 9 - 12, Stroke technique and basic skills are still the foundations of this squad, but now we will start to bring in some speed to your swimming and encourage you to attend more swim completions with the aim of aspiring to qualify for the Cornwall County Championships
You may also be asked to attend Team Completions such as the Cornwall Diddy league and will be expected to represent the club
A Squad
Ages 12-14, Stroke technique and basic skills are still the foundations of this squad, but now a more competitive nature will start to be bought into training, Preparing you on how to transfer your swim practice skills into Racing. More hours are training hours are available and this is where we start to bring in land training to help with injury prevention and muscle development, getting you to proficient in basic strength and conditioning movements such as squats, press ups, lunges and so on.
In this squad you are expected to regularly attend swimming competitions Aiming to Qualify for Cornwall County Championships and aspire to compete in the South West Regional Age group Championships
You may also be asked to attend Team Completions such as the Cornwall Diddy league and will be expected to represent the club
Top Squad
This is our most senior competition squad aged 14+ you will start to be able to focus more on your main strokes, access to more land training which will focus on muscle growth & development, strengthening key load areas, Power output, Speed, Flexibility and Mobility.
You will be focused on competing throughout the year, Competing at Cornwall County Championships with the intention of making Finals with the aim of season to Qualify for South West Regional Age group Championships
Seinor & Masters
Aged from 18 - 99+ we cater for a wide range of abilities, We focus on fitness and teaching you the correct technique for you, as each masters athlete has a different range of mobility, so we make sure the strokes we are teaching you are to your ability. You do not have to be skilled in all four strokes but you will need to be able to swim Front crawl Comfortably and with controlled, we attend masters competitions over the southwest and compete in the yearly Cornwall Inter Club competition where we have won it in 2019 and 2020.

Squad Selection

Will be determined by Club Coach following consultation with the Coaching team.

Apart from the main factors, we will take an athletes mindset and how they act while training and at competitions into account, such as...

Do they turn up on time for all training ?

Attendance

It is of paramount importance that attendance is both frequent and regular. Coaches should be informed, in advance of absence, or told as soon as convenient.

A register of attendance will be kept (ticked as entering the club on every session)
Club Progression

The Coaching team will review squad movements two times a year, please be aware that we may not move Athletes every time we reveiw the squads, but the main factors will be age, training performance and the swimmers ability to reach and maintain fastest times and also their stroke, start, turn.

There will be the same criteria if a swimmer is to be moved back a Squad.
Team Gala Selection

A team sheet will be posted on the Club Notice Board it is the responsibility of the individual swimmers and parents or guardians to visit the notice board on every available opportunity to ensure important information is viewed.

We do expect all swimmers selected to attend as this is a team event and every swimmer is of crucial value towards the points for the teams overall performance.

The team list will request the presence of the listed swimmers to tick for availability or delete if unavailable, once the swimmers has ticked availability, if selected they must then be prepared to commit to the swim unless there is reasons why they cannot and they are verbally submitted to one of the Club Officials giving as much notice prior to the event as possible.

If an individual does not tick or delete their name it will be understood that they are unavailable for the event.
