Poole Lions Swimathon Fundraiser February 2020

Tom Dowden

Our Learn to Swim Academy once again entered the Poole Lions Club Annual Swimathon, a sponsored team swim, which took place back in February. Poole Swimming Club has taken part for many years in these great charity event, which raises funds for many local good causes.

In recent years we have entered with teams made up of our youngest swimmers in the Learn to Swim Academy through to swimmers from Silver and Gold as well as friends, family and parents!

Teams of 6 swim for 55 minutes in relay format; the stronger swimmers doing 2 lengths of the Dolphin pool to make a lap, while the very little ones swim just 1 width  of the boom pool. All teams have a great time and thoroughly enjoy themselves! Teachers from the Swim Academy also enter a team and last year won a trophy, as did two other teams.

Unfortunately, due to lockdown, the Presentation Evening could not be held this year. However, we have just received news of our fantastic sponsorship results. The total amount raised was split, as in previous years, between Poole Swimming Club and our chosen charity, Julia’s House. A cheque for an amazing £359.25 has been handed to the club and the same amount has been donated to Julia’s House.

Well done and thank you to all who took part. We will be sure to put this generous contribution to good use for the benefit of our swimmers, as soon as the club is back in action.

In the meantime, stay safe and we hope you are able to keep up your fitness on dry land, with the support of PSC, until we can meet again.
