Mighty Max makes National Squad

Tom Dowden

Every year, Swim England Swimming organise a series of development programmes that provide a pathway to support young swimmers in their quest to achieve senior international podium success. Swimmers are selected as a national cohort and have then been assigned to the National Development Programme within one of six areas which includes the South West. Max’s selection onto the programme is based on his success at the South West Regional Championships and also his current long course rankings achieved in Olympic events.

The  purpose of the National  Development  Programme  is  to  create  an  environment  that  allows swimmers  to  increase  their  long  term  potential  in  the  sport  by  enhancing  their  swimming specific knowledge. On each camp, swimmers will undertake technical pool sessions, dryland training and a series of practical workshops.  In the pool, the programme aims to develop all four strokes and the individual medley. In addition, Max will undertake strength and conditioning sessions to progress his mobility and stability and enhance his starts and turns. The programme will also include a series of athlete centred workshops which will aim to develop his  understanding  of  good  practice as  well  as focusing  on  key  technical considerations for stroke efficiency, individual medley, transition turns and relay takeovers.

The South West Camps for 2019 will be held over 3 x I day camps during the autumn and winter months. The first camp will take place at Marlborough College on 15th September and subsequently at Millfield School on 13th October and 1st December.

Well done Max and we hope you enjoy the programme.
