Yarrells has become recognised for its strengths when participating and competing in swimming. Yarrells School place a strong emphasis on developing children's water confidence, especially during the younger years. The children have the opportunity to learn how to swim at the Yarrells school pool from the age of 4, under the tuition of Mr Williams.

Notable success has been at The IAPS National swim finals, where pupils have regualrly qualified through regional swim rounds to reach the final at The London Aquatics Centre. There have been wins and top three finishes for Yarrells pupils. These pupils also train and compete for Poole Swimming Club.

The Dorset School Games Poole Schools Gala has been won each year for the past six years by Yarrells in The Year 4 and Years 5 & 6 age groups.

There has also been a success at the Canford Prep Schools Gala, winning the last three editions of this competition and at the BCS and Clayesmore Swim Galas when competing against schools from across Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Linking with Poole Swimming Club

Yarrells School has a strong working relationship with Poole Swimming Club and many past and present pupils have chosen to train and compete with PSC. Mr Ross Williams (Head of Sport at Yarrells School) and Mrs Emma Richards (Swimming Coach) have created a clear swimming pathway between Yarrells and PSC, from Early stages of training to progressing onto club swimming.

Yarrells pupils have a wonderful opportunity to participate based on their aquatic skills to train year round at Canford Sports Centre under the tuition of Poole Swimming Club coaches. The emphasis for training is to learn and develop their swimming skills and technique. Once the pupils have reached a level that meets the entry criteria to PSC, they will be invited for a swim trial. This has led to many Yarrells pupils moving across to PSC in the past 8 years.
