Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club's Three Strike Rule and Code of Conducts

The following is a list of the Codes of Conduct for the club. Included in the Swimmer and Water Polo Players' and the Parents and Guardians Codes of Conduct is the club's Three Strike Rule, which states:

Strike One is activated when behaviour by a participating Club member who is a young person disrupts a swimming, training, or water polo session or club-organised event, such as not following the instructions of the coaches or teachers.  Similarly, this applies to parents/guardians/carers or any accompanying adult or young person and spectators who behave disrespectfully or use inappropriate or offensive language to any other individual or a coach, teacher, volunteer or member of the leisure centre staff. The individual(s) will be asked to leave the session, or in the case of spectators or accompanying adults, leave the premises, and will be suspended for one week to enable them to reflect on their actions.  The individual(s) involved will be invited back after this one week off subject to an interview or conversation either between the young person, accompanied by their parent /guardian or the offending adult, and one of the officers of Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club together with a person nominated by the Management Committee of Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club.

Strike Two is activated when the same behaviour continues or is repeated within 3 or 6? months of the implementation of the Strike One procedure. The individual involved will again be asked to leave the session or premises and will immediately receive a two-week suspension followed by another interview or conversation either between the young person accompanied by their parent/guardian or the offending adult and one of the officers of Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club together with a person nominated by the Management Committee of Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club.  The individual(s) involved will be invited back after this two-week suspension and subject to the outcome of the interview.

Strike Three is the final level of the procedure and will be implemented after all the other two ‘Strikes’ have been undertaken and the individual’s behaviour has not improved, is getting worse or has returned within 6 months? of the implementation of Strike 2. This individual be they a  member, parent, guardian, carer, sibling or spectator will no longer be welcome at Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club due to the risk they have become to themselves and other participants, staff or members of the public inside any of the venues used by the Club. If they are a member they will be asked to leave the Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club, and their membership of the Club and Swim England will be cancelled.  They will not be re-admitted to the Club...

These measures will be added to the club’s Codes of Conduct and sent out to all swimmers, players, volunteers, coaches and teachers in the club. They will be needed to be returned to the club secretary, duly signed by the 1st of March 2023. A reminder will be sent out if not returned with a second request for the form to be completed by 14th March 2023, together with if not, then the individual will not be able to train or play until signed.
