Eight swimmers and their supporters made the five-hour return trip to Gloucester to swim in the Swim England Regional Fast Five competition this weekend. Open only to those who have swum in Swim England SW Region Championships since 1 November 2018, this requires swimmers to swim all five sprint events on the programme: 50m butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle and 100m individual medley Points are awarded according to times in each event and final placings are decided on the total points gained in all five events. The Devon ASA Sprint and Development galas took place in June at Plymouth’s Life Centre. The Sprint gala saw 28 Tavistock Swimming Club members take part. Between them they achieved 74 personal best times, 14 top 8 positions and won 8 medals including 1 gold. The Development gala was attended by 26 club swimmers swimming in 98 individual events. 79 personal best times were achieved with an incredible 46 top 8 positions and 17 medals won including 4 gold. Our head coach reports: "Last weekend saw the end of Tavistock’s county championships with the conclusion of the inter-club team gala. An amazing result finishing in 7th position!!" "All the swimmers swam their hearts out, being a small club many swimmers in multiple races. During the gala saw us moving up and down the scores chart, was all very close, mixing it up with the mid and large clubs. We can really keep with the best in Devon."
