Club  Squad

The session allocation for Club squad swimmers is determined by commitment and swimming development.

Age range

Primarily 13 and over for girls and boys, occasionally younger swimmers who have trained to a higher level will join the squad because they require fitness swimming.

Squad criteria


To provide competitive swimming training structure for those 13+ who 

  • cannot commit to the focused intensity of the Performance squads

  • wish to train and compete in club, county development and open meets 

  • are seeking to progress to competitive swimming at a high level 

  • swimming may complement training for other sports

  • wish to maintain a high fitness level, but may not wish to compete


Swimmers joining the Club Squad will need their own equipment. Spare equipment is not available at some pools used by the squad. Not all items are needed immediately.

All equipment & water bottles should be marked with the swimmer’s name 

  • Spare cap and googles (the coaches DO NOT have spares if googles or hats are forgotten, or break)

  • Kick board 

  • Pull Buoy 

  • Short Blade Fins (if they’re slightly big/you can’t find the perfect fit, I recommend including a pair of socks! This way they don’t slip off).

  • Equipment bag

  • Water bottle (please ensure that your athlete never walks on deck without water or juice!). Only a handful of swimmers are arriving with water at the moment. Just as they wouldn’t go to football practice for an hour without juice, they shouldn’t swim for an hour without fluids.  This is a mandatory requirement of mine.

Age: primarily 13 to 18 year girls and boys. Occasionally younger swimmers who have trained to a higher level will join the squad because they cannot commit to Performance Squads. Older swimmers who are studying for A levels or equivalent may continue in the squad.

The squad train at a Pools on the PArk at weekends & Teddington on Tuesday morning, some sessions are alongside other squads, hence pool space varies from session to session. 

The number of sessions offered to new members will be determined by session capacity and swimming development. 

Swimmers progressing from Development groups will be offered Club Red or Club J depending on age and progression in Development.  

  • Club RED 1 Saturday  PotP 6 - 7:00PM session ONLY

  • Club RED 2 Saturday PotP 6 - 7:00PM  & Sunday PotP 7:30 - 8:30PM sessions 

  • Club J/J+ - PotP Sat 6:45 – 7:55AM, PotP Sun 7:30 – 8:30PM + optionally TP&FC Tues 6:00 – 6:55AM

  • Club S/S+ - PotP Sat  7:00 – 8:30PM, PotP Sun 7:30 – 8:30PM + optionally TP&FC Tues 6:00 – 6:55AM

  • CLUB GOLD - PotP - Sat 6:45 – 7:55AM; PotP - Sat  7:00 – 8:30PM; PotP - Sun 7:30 – 8:30PM & TP&FC Tues 6:00 – 6:55AM

Progression to another squad  is based on achieving the squad criteria for the target squad or at the discretion of the Head Coach. 

Training times


7:30pm to 8:30pm at  Pools on the Park


6:00am to 6:55am at  Teddington


6:55 - 7:55AM , 6:00 - 7:00PM  or 7:00pm to 8:30pm at  Richmond depending on group
