Teddington Swimming Club Masters

Teddington Swimming Club Masters (“TSCM”) is a masters swimming programme dedicated to promoting lifelong fitness for adults aged 18 and over through regular swimming. Our coaching team provide high quality structured workouts and encourage an environment where personal and team goals are achieved. We offer a friendly, supportive and fun atmosphere while contributing to the health and wellness of the community at large. We welcome swimmers of diverse backgrounds and abilities and look forward to contributing to your development and enjoyment in the pool.

Training

We have eleven main training sessions each week, lasting between 60 and 90 minutes.  Our fees structure allows members to choose how many sessions a week they wish to attend. Additionally, there are two dedicated "Developing Masters" sessions for people who are relatively new to swimming or have been away from the sport for many years. The focus in these sessions is on swimming skills as well as improving fitness.

Our Monday, Friday and Sunday evening sessions at Hampton Pool are also open to Developing Masters, providing an opportunity to train with the main squad.

Our Monday, Wednesday and Friday daytime sessions at Teddington Pool enable our members who aren't able to swim regularly in the evening the opportunity to attend a structured and coached training session during the day. Due to the popularity of these sesssions they are usually restricted to main squad members.

Requirements

We welcome a wide range of abilities and depending on your level, you will find a home either in the main squad or with the Developing Masters.

Developing Masters (DM): you should be able to swim front crawl for about 8 lengths of a 25m pool & be in good health. You should be prepared to attempt other strokes during the session.

Club: Ideally you should be able to swim front crawl and at least one other stroke, and understand the training techniques of kick and drill.  You should be able to swim 100m front crawl in less than 2min. You should be prepared to attempt butterfly from time to time. There are lanes to cater for different capabilities and speeds, with lanes covering anywhere between 2km and 4km in an hour.

Competition

Many of our swimmers take part in galas or other competitive events. Individual results cover a wide range, from one British Record Holder, several placing in the British National Championships, to those choosing to compete in local galas. We had over sixty members participate in the European Masters Championships at the London Olympic Centre in May 2016, with notable success in relay events, taking two British and one European records.

The age range of our competitive swimmers is equally wide, from 18 to 75.  Its not all about medals and records though. One of the joys of swimming is the possibility to improve as you age by refining your technique. Galas offer the opportunity to compare performances year on year and to race other people of similar ages. Over the past few years we've run several in-house time-trial galas of our own to provide an opportunity for our members to experience race conditions, often for the first time. Some events we attend en masse; we’ve been known to win the odd trophy and to enjoy a celebratory post-event dinner.

Over the past few years there has been a huge interest in open water swimming, and a growing number of our members compete quite regularly at sea, river and lake swims up and down the country.  A number of TSCM swimmers complement their pool training with training at nearby lakes. Over the years, several of our swimmers have successfully swum across the English Channel.
