At the end of the stage 1 participants will be able to:
1. Enter and exits the water safely
2. Move forwards, backwards and sideways for a distance of 5 metres
3. Scoop the water and wash face
4. Be at ease with water showered from overhead
5. Blow bubbles a minimum of 3 times rhythmically with nose and mouth submerged
6. Move into a stretched floating position using aids, equipment or support
7. Regain an upright position from on the back with or without support
8. Regain an upright position from on the front with or without support
9. Push & glide on the back position from a wall
10. Push & glide in a horizontal position from a wall
11. Take part in a teacher led partner orientated game and demonstrate understanding of the pool rules
At the end of the stage 2 participants will be able to:
1. Be at ease with water showered from overhead and blow bubbles with nose and mouth submerged (a minimum of three times rhythmically)
2. Push from the wall and glide and travel on the back for 5 metres, aids or equipment may be used
3. Regain an upright position from on the back without support
4. Push from the wall and glide and travel on the front for 5 metres, aids or equipment may be used
5. Regain an upright position from on the front without support
6. Perform a rotation from the front to the back to gain an upright position
7. Perform a rotation from the back to the front to gain an upright position
8. Jump in from poolside safely
9. Perform a log roll from the back to the front
10. Demonstrate an understanding of pool rules
At the end of the stage 3 participants will be able to:
1. Jump in from poolside and fully submerge (min depth 1m) to pick up the object
2. Sink, push away from wall on side and maintain a streamlined position
3. Push & glide on the front with arms extended and log roll onto the back
4. Push & glide on the back with arms extended and log roll onto the front
5. Travel on the front, tuck to rotate around the horizontal axis to return on the back
6. Perform a tuck float for 5 seconds
7. Travel 10 m on the back with efficient kick
8. Travel 10 m on the front with efficient kick
9. Travel 5 m breaststroke kick on the front arms extended
10. Travel 5 m butterfly hips on the front with arms by the side
At the end of the stage 4 participants will be able to:
1. Perform a sequence of changing shapes (minimum of 3) whilst floating on the surface
2. Perform on the back a head first sculling action for 5 metres in a horizontal position
3. Travel on back and log roll in one continuous move on to front
4. Travel on front and log roll in one continuous move on to back
5. Push and glide from the wall to pool floor
6. Swim 10m backstoke with appropriate start
7. Swim 10m frontcrawl face in the water with appropriate start
8. Swim 10m Breaststoke att to legs
9. Swim 5m Butterfly Drill
At the end of the stage 5 participants will be able to:
1. Perform 3 different shaped jumps into deep water.
2. Scull 5m feet first in a flat horizontal position
3. Travel on back and log roll to front
4. Travel on front and log roll to back
5. Push and Glide to pool floor
6. Swim 10m Backstoke with appropriate start
7. Swim 10m Frontcrawl face in with appropriate srtart
8. Swim 10m Breaststroke ull stroke
9. Swim 10m Butterfly
10. Perform a Forward summersault and a handstand
11. Tread water for 30seconds and demonstrate an action for getting help
At the end of the stage 6 participants will be able to:
1. Give two examples of how to prepare for exercise and understand why it is important
2. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate to backstroke
3. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate to front crawl
4. Perform a surface dive
5. Perform a handstand and hold for a minimum of three seconds
6. Perform a forward somersault
7. Perform 25m of backstroke, front crawl and breaststroke with appropriate start and finish
8. Swim Butterfly to include at least three rhythmical breaths followed by 10 metres Butterfly Drills
9. Swim 10 metres wearing clothes
10. perform a 'shout and signal' rescue
At the end of the stage 7 participants will be able to:
1. Perform a sequence of 3 jumps and on the third, rotate around the verticle axis
2. perform a dive from standing position (in the deep end of the pool as per ASA dive safety rules)
3. Swim continuous 75m SIM (legal strokes) using legal turns
4. Swim a continuous 100m IM kick
5. perform backstroke start with underwater butterfly kick in a streamlined position and complete 100m with legal finish
6. perform frontcrawl start, with underwater kick in streamlined position and complete 100m with legal finish
7. perform butterfly start, with underwater fly kick until a minimum of 15m from the start point and perform a 10m drill
8. perform breaststroke start, with legal underwater action, transfer into stroke and complete 50m with legal finish
9. Swim 100m continuously- can use a variety of strokes
