The younger swimmers aged 9-12 from Wells Swimming Club took on five other Somerset based clubs last week at the latest round of the Four Seasons Galas. They travelled to Bridgwater and competed brilliantly against Bridgwater, City of Bristol, Clevedon, Cheddar Kingfishers and Burnham- on-Sea, coming a very creditable 4 th at the end of the evening. For many of the Wells swimmers this was their first taste of a team gala as there haven’t been galas over the last two years due to Covid. They embraced the challenge brilliantly,...

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 22 February outlining the roadmap out of the national lockdown, with the return of outdoor pools and venues from 29 March and indoor pools from 12 April, we are busy working with our pool providers to enable our swimming members to commence training again. Unfortunately it looks like Masters will need to wait until May to join us in the pool.

The younger swimmers from Wells swimming club proved they are a force to be reckoned with recently when they took on swimmers from Cheddar Kingfishers, City of Bristol, Clevedon, Burnham and Bridgwater swimming clubs in the first Four Seasons gala of the season at Hutton Moor leisure centre. All the swimmers were aged between 8 and 12 years old and some were competing for the very first time. However they refused to be overawed by the occasion and put in some amazing performances with a huge number of first and...

Keynsham go to a lot of effort to make sure this event goes ahead, unfortunately finding long distance swimming pool events can be tricky. They don’t have quite the cut and thrust of a 50m event, swimmers have to rely more heavily on tactics, concentration and stamina. With that in mind a number of the Wells Squad Swimmers attended the meet on the last day of November. Ex-Wells Swimmer Asta Maddox is still impressing she dropped 20s off her 400IM PB. As for our current crop Brianna Davies took first...

Swimmers from Wells Swimming Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the City of Bristol Early Bird meet recently. The team won medals of all colours, set numerous personal bests and showed that all their early season training is definitely paying off! Early morning is a tough time to swim – especially for a long-distance event – but Bri and Sian Davies were on great form in the 400m freestyle, winning silver and bronze respectively. In the 200m individual medley Theo Truan-Thatcher won a silver and Anthony Davies a bronze, making...

Wells Swimming Club held an extremely successful Club Championships recently with over 70 swimmers taking part! Everyone enjoyed a fantastic couple of evenings at the Kings of Wessex pool in Cheddar - from the youngest aged 6 to the oldest aged over 70! There were some fantastic races of all distances from 25m up to 1500m, some very close finishes and some incredible support from parents, friends and fellow swimmers. A few weeks later the club held the annual presentation evening near Wells where all the medallists from the championships...

Somerset ASA County Development Meet Around 30 of our younger swimmers took part at the beginning of October in the Somerset ASA County Development meet at Millfield School. For some, it was their first experience of competitive swimming and they all tackled the challenges of their races admirably! For some of our other swimmers who compete regularly, it was a chance to gain County times in order to get into the main Somerset County event in January and February and there were some superb efforts to get these. Medals were...

Langport Triathlon In sprint event held on 15/9/19 we had several of our members competing (past and present): Ex-Wells swimmer Alex Williams (who can often be seen life-guarding) managed a very creditable 8th place. While our Masters - Marcus Williams finished 19th overall and 4th in age category. He completed the swim section in 3rd place (1st for age). Heath Falck finished 39th overall and 17th in his age group. He held his position pretty much throughout the event. Although the Swim and Run sections appear to have been his...

Langport held the ladies novice triathlon, in which we had fantastic results from our swimmers: Roberta Bland made 3rd overall, less than 2 mins behind the overall winner. She had been 2nd after the swim! Katie Chambers was under 90secs behind and finished 7th. Not surprisingly she finished the swim in first!
