Wells SC at the Four Seasons Gala

Andrew Taylor
The younger swimmers aged 9-12 from Wells Swimming Club took on five other Somerset based
clubs last week at the latest round of the Four Seasons Galas. They travelled to Bridgwater and
competed brilliantly against Bridgwater, City of Bristol, Clevedon, Cheddar Kingfishers and Burnham-
on-Sea, coming a very creditable 4 th at the end of the evening.
For many of the Wells swimmers this was their first taste of a team gala as there haven’t been galas
over the last two years due to Covid. They embraced the challenge brilliantly, especially those who
swam in multiple age groups and across multiple strokes.
In the girls 9 year old age group Olivia Chard took on all the individual events with 2 nd in the butterfly,
4 th in the breaststroke and backstroke and 5 th in the freestyle. In the boys 9 year old age group Orrin
Taylor also took on the individual events coming 2 nd in the butterfly, 4 th in the breaststroke, 1 st in the
backstroke and 2 nd in the freestyle. Joseph Knowles and Alex Trojanowski raced with him in the
relays. He also came 2 nd in the 10 year old 25m breaststroke and the three boys joined Jacob White
in the 10 year old relays. Jacob had three 1 st places in his individual races, showing how hard he has
been training recently.
For the girls, Ornella Fazzi and Lottie Cavill swam the 10 year old individual races and were
supported valiantly by Lily Corbett and Lola Huot-Hills in the relays. Lily and Lola have only recently
joined the club and have already progressed from Pre-squad into the Cygnets group. In the 11 year
old age group, Julia Trojanowska (freestyle 5 th ), Khampang Ta-In (breaststroke 6 th ), Elodie Matthews
(butterfly 2 nd ) and Macy Hillman (backstroke 5 th ) shared the individual races and combined effectively
in the relays, with Elodie and Julia also stepping up to race in the 12 year old relays. The 12 year old
individual races were swum by Pippa Kane and Lily Clark, both seasoned competitors now who were
on great form throughout the evening. Pippa placed 2 nd in the individual medley, 1 st in the
backstroke and 3 rd in the breaststroke, while Lily took 1 st in the freestyle and 3 rd in the butterfly.
In the boys 11 year old races Albi Fazzi (breaststroke 5 th ), Ralph Sweeney (butterfly 5 th ), Colby
McKernan (backstroke 1 st ) and Tyler Edwards (freestyle 3 rd ) took on the individual races and were
joined by Ollie Watts for the relays. Colby also swam the 12 year old backstroke race with Josh
White taking on the butterfly and freestyle and Isaac Coxon the breaststroke and individual medley.
The last event of the evening was the canon, where one boy and one girl from each age group swim
an 8x25m freestyle relay. Some fantastic takeovers helped Wells achieve 4th place in the race
amidst some deafening cheering from all teams!

Wells Team Manager Marisa Taylor would like to thank Cheddar Kingfishers for hosting and
congratulate City of Bristol for winning the gala. All the Wells SC swimmers thoroughly enjoyed their
racing and are looking forward to the next event. For some this will be Somerset County
Championships being held over the next few weeks, for others it is likely to be the first round of the
Cotswold League in February, where Wells will be looking to defend their title won in 2020!
