Wells SC at December County Qualifier Open Meet

Neil Chambers

Wells Swimming Club was back in action at the December County Qualifier Gala held at Millfield.  New Head Coach Miles Denyer said he was pleased with the overall performance of the swimmers who competed for Wells particularly as, looking for future strengthening of the club, he admits that he has been working them very hard in training since taking over in November.

The club as a whole was happy to see Declan Truan-Thatcher back in competition again after an unwanted absence from the water.  His goal since returning to training in August was to get 1 Regional Time by the cut off at the end of April.  And the good news is that at his first gala back he managed to get a Regional Consideration Time in the 50m Fly for which he won the gold.  He also picked up bronze medals in the 50m Back and 50m Free and picked up 4 PBs and 4 County Times.

Also coming away with a medal was Lachlan Taylor who won bronze in the 200m free and impressively picked up PBs in all of his events.

There were encouraging signs of improvement in many areas and many strong performances from the rest of the Wells team which included Hannah Boyd, Elizabeth Chambers (4 PBs), Katie Chambers (who just missed out on the medals in 200m breast with a 4th place),  Izara Hole (1 PB),  William Leatt, Thomas Maitland-Smith (4 PBs),  Theo Truan-Thatcher (who just missed out on the medals in 200m back with a 4th place and had 3 PBs), Evelyn Wigley (who impressed by getting PBs in all of her events) and  Eloise Yeadon Caiger (who just missed out on the medals in 50m and 100m fly).
